Arts and Culture sector set for €34.4m boost

The 2027 Budget has confirmed a further investment of €34.4m in the Arts and Culture sector.
Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers has detailed that the investment will provide a full year of income support for artists, helping them remain in creative work.
The Government has outlined that €6m will support the Arts Capital Investment Fund. This fund is broken down into three categories where applicants eligible for it may apply online via the government website.
The categories focus on investing in the purchasing of equipment for voluntary groups in the Arts and in construction that may be required to develop Arts and Culture facilities.
“By investing in the places where culture happens, and in the community and voluntary groups that bring it to life, we are helping to ensure that arts can play an important part in people’s lives, regardless of where you live or your background,” stated the Minister for Culture, Communication and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan.
This investment aims to increase the participation in Arts and help communities and voluntary groups in their contribution to culture.
A further €89m will be invested in national cultural institutions to promote culture around the country. Music celebrations such as the Fleadh Ceoil in Belfast will receive funding, supporting the traditional music culture scene.
There was no mention of the €100 culture card for students during the Budget summit; however, final decisions will be published by the end of this week giving clearer information on what the Government has prepared for the Arts and Culture sector.
