Competing against three of Connacht’s top DJ talents, DJ Samszyy claimed the Galway title and became the third DJ to book their place in the Red Bull Turn It Up National Final.
The qualifier, which took place in a sold-out Monroe’s Live in early October, comes as the third competition ahead of the national final set to take place next week, 5 November.
The Crowd Determines the Victor
Other competing DJs included Rookie, John Murphy, and Bongani, as they all fought for their place in the National Final. The performers battled to win the Galway crowd as the concertgoers determined the victor of the evening.
Reigning continental champion DJ Onai hyped up the crowd between sets, as host Leah Hayden Cassidy helped maintain the evening’s high energy.
Themes of The Evening
Each round, DJs were given select themes such as “Trad Meets Modern”, “Karaoke Night”, “Unexpected Classics” and “Around the World”. Their range was put to the test as each of the four DJs had to switch up their sound to win over the crowd and secure their place in the final.
The Final Showdown
John Murphy and DJ Samszyy met head-to-head in the final showdown, and the deciding vote crowned DJ Samszyy Connacht Champion.
Samszyy, originally from Ennis but now living in Galway, will join Dublin winner Dacosta and Cork’s Tuáthla at the Red Bull Turn It Up National Final on 5 November at the Button Factory in Dublin.
