6 Chartbusting Songs remade in Irish

Although Irish is one of the oldest European languages, not many people in Ireland can speak it fluently, or find it hard to communicate in Irish.
So, Coláiste Lurgan, a summer school based in Connemara, a Gaeltacht (where the Irish language is the primary language), launched the musical project TG Lurgan.
TG Lurgan releases cover versions of many popular songs with new lyrics in the Irish Language, aimed at supporting learners in acquiring the Irish language.
TG Lurgan has remade numerous chart-topping English songs in the Irish language. They are:
Calm Down/Tar Liom
Sung by Rema and Selena Gomez, Calm Down is one of the most viral tracks that has been on fire on social media. It is one of the most recent tracks that has been remade into the Irish Language by TG Lurgan titled ‘Tar Liom’.
The 2013 hit by Avicii is one of the most popular interpretations made by the Gaeltacht group. Lig Mé Saor has more than 8 million views on YouTube and earned the group an appearance on the Late Late Show on RTÉ.
Cheerleader/Síoraí Spraoi
It is another popular chartbuster that TG Lurgan remade in the Irish language. Released on YouTube in 2014, the Irish language version of Cheerleader’ Síoraí Spraoi’ has garnered more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.
Hello/Hello
Released in the album 25 by Adele, Hello is one of the most celebrated songs of Adele’s career. The song’s popularity is evident from the fact that the Gaeltacht group made an Irish interpretation of the song, which has more than 2 million views on YouTube so far.
Despacito/ I Do Dhiaidh Chomh
Originally sung by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber (Remix), Despacito is another chart-leading song made into a cover by TG Lurgan. The Irish cover of Despacito has more than 1.5 million views in total.
Pompeii/ Agus Samhlaigh
Bastille’s hit song Pompeii was also one of the songs remade into the Irish language by Coláiste Lurgan’s musical group TG Lurgan. It is one of the most popular uploads of the group on YouTube and has more than 1 million views overall.
Besides these songs, TG Lurgan has made many inspired covers of English chartbuster songs. Some other hits remade in the Irish language include – Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ and ‘Barbie’, and ‘Happier Than Ever’ by Billie Eilish.
