Free experiences to try in Galway this October.

Saving your pennies? Looking to experience something new? We have compiled a list of events happening around Galway this month that are absolutely free to attend.

Music Experiences

There is a free Open Mic night every Sunday in the Roisin Dubh. The next one will happen on Sunday, 8 October. The ambition behind this project is ”to provide a perfect launchpad for the many musicians wandering the streets of Galway’’ Those looking to perform should meet at the Roisin Dubh smoking area at at 21:00 on Sunday. Performers are urged to arrive early as the signup list fills up quickly.

Strange Brew Presents: Undercover Martians will be on Friday, 13 October. This free event will take place in the Top Bar of the Roisin Dubh. Doors open at 23:59. Undercover Martians are an Irish indie rock band from Donegal and Leitrim, that have established themselves within the Galway music scene.

There is a Weekly Traditional Irish Music session in the Western Hotel, Prospect Hill. The next session will happen on Wednesday, 4 October at 21:00. It is free to attend or join in. For further information contact 086 836 1912.

Film Experiences

On Saturday, 7 October there will be a Short Film Premiere at PALAS Cinema. This will consist of a showcase of multiple short three-minute films from the AATE film + Architecture workshop in collaboration with Copenhagen Architecture Festival CAFx. You can reserve your free spot for the premiere here on Eventbrite.

Animationxchange Galway is on Tuesday, 3 October from 19:00 to 21:30 in the PorterShed, Market Street. It is described as ‘A screening of the acclaimed short from Star Wars Visions, “Aau’s Song”, followed by an exclusive presentation by the writer/directors’. Mind and Body Experiences

Galway Mind Body experience returns to Galway on Sunday, 8 of October from 10:00 to 19:00 in Leisureland in Salthill there are four elements to this event that may appeal to you – ‘The Mind and body soul expo’, the ‘Yoga and Meditation Festival’, ‘Live well talks and workshops’ as well as ‘Galway Psychic Fair’. This event comes with 70 Exhibitors & 27 hours of Free Talks/Classes. You can book your free spot here on Eventbrite.

There are also Free Sahaja Yoga Meditation classes every Wednesday at 19:00 in the Westside Resource Centre. No appointment is necessary, but more information about these classes is available on Eventbrite.
