By Paul Shaughnessy
It was a busy weekend of action in the Galway Senior Hurling club championship.
Senior A Hurling Championship
Four of the Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals took place across Saturday and Sunday in Pearse Stadium.
In the weekend’s first game, second-half goals from Jamie Holland and Brendan Phelan proved to be different, as Turloughmore defeated Castlegar on a 2-20 – 1-14 scoreline. The question remains, can anyone stop St. Thomas’? The reigning county champions recorded an eleven-point victory over Cappataggle.
Loughrea and Clarinbridge produced a highly entertaining encounter, in the end it was last year’s county finalists who took the win, 2-16 to 1-21.
While the final quarter final of the weekend saw Sarsfields, comfortably get past Oranmore-Maree by 21 points.
The Semi-finals now see St Thomas face Sarsfields. While Loughrea will take on Turloughmore.
Senior B Hurling Championship
There was action in the Senior B Hurling Championship over the weekend, which saw victories for Ahascragh/Fohenagh and Mullagh. The sides will now meet in the Senior B decider.
Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Intermediate hurling championship is now at the semi-final stage.
The draw is as follows:
Sylane vs Ballindereen
Meelick Eyrecourt vs Tynagh Abbey Duniry.
While Turloughmore defeated An Spidéal by the minimum, in the Intermediate hurling relegation final. This now means An Spidéal will play Junior Hurling in 2024.
