In the lead-up to Culture Night, Galway is abuzz with anticipation and excitement. On 22 September, Galway will participate in the 18th instalment of the all-island public event.

In a night celebrating community, diversity, and the arts, Culture Night enforces the importance of Irish heritage across the entire country. Culture Night is a nationwide event, with the aim of connecting people to the arts through engaging and meaningful ways. Events span the entire evening, creating a vibrant and enthused atmosphere throughout the whole country.

Events in Galway City include immersive theatrical showcases, an operatic performance in the Claddagh Basin, DJs, traditional music, poetry readings, and much more. Throughout the county, there are incredible celebrations to see consisting of music, dance, and literature.

Sharon O’Grady, Galway County Arts Officer, says this: “Culture Night is a huge evening for the Arts Office with so many events to choose from all across the county.

“Our venues and amazing culture groups have come out in force again this year so we will be encouraging everyone to take part and support all venues and fabulous free events happening in their communities.”

Events to look out for

Galway’s culturally rich atmosphere is a perfect landing place for the plethora of events planned for Friday evening. Immersive exhibitions like Outset Gallary’s “Tús Nua,” will see the launch of a new exhibition, “Concrete x Canvas.”

These events and many more are speckled throughout the city. Galway City Arts Officer Ruth Mulhern encourages members of the community to take advantage of these free and enriching events: “Galway City Culture Night is a diverse celebration of the arts and culture in Galway, something our City is truly renowned for.

“Culture Night is a fun evening where venues throw open their doors, and our artists and communities showcase their talents and celebrate culture. The streets will be alive with music, theatre and spectacle.”
