Galway City Council has announced the closure of all beaches and walkways due to new government restrictions.
Walkways and beaches at Salthill Promenade, Ballyloughane and Silver Strand have been closed to the public. All other public amenities in the city have also been restricted.
The measures come as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced drastic new restrictions to prevent the spread Covid-19.
The City Council tweeted that social distancing guidelines weren’t being followed in parts of Galway.
St Nicholas’ Market has also been called off this weekend, but many traders’ goods can be purchased online.
Under the new restrictions, no more than four people can gather outside unless they are all from the same family.
People may only leave their homes in certain exceptional circumstances and may exercise alone no more than 2km from their house.
Elsewhere, Galway County Council has announced that recycling centres at Tuam, Clifden & Ballinasloe will be closed until further notice.
