Galway coronavirus group set up to reach out to most vulnerable

By Sharon Dolan D’Arcy
Galway Community Support, a social media support group set up to help with coronavirus has received pledges of help from over 60 volunteers in less than six days.
The Facebook group is reaching out to the most vulnerable in Galway city and county to help them with grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions or minding the children of health workers on the frontlines of coronavirus. Their service is free of charge to the community.
The group is appealing to two categories of potential volunteers – people who have a car and are willing to help with deliveries and also those who are Garda vetted to assist with taking care of the children of health workers.
The current volunteers are also eager to hear from people who don’t fall into the above categories but who are interested in volunteering a few hours of their time to help with the effort.
Galway Community Support has recently set up a phone number and it is hoped this will further help in reaching out to the most vulnerable during coronavirus.
