Several events in Galway cancelled due to coronavirus

A large number of public gatherings have been cancelled in county Galway in the aftermath of the Taoiseach’s statement on coronavirus.

Leo Varadkar said that outdoor events of more than 500 people and indoor events of more than 100 people should be cancelled.

All schools, colleges and childcare facilities are closed from 6pm this evening until March 29.

A number events across Galway city and county have been cancelled this week already.

As of the time of writing the following events have been cancelled or postponed:

All St Patrick’s Day activities have been cancelled across Galway city and county.

The GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have decided to suspend all activity at club, county and educational levels until March 29.

All club rugby and soccer fixtures have been postponed.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has postponed its annual conference, which was due to take place in Galway city from April 3-5.

The Town Hall Theatre and Black Box Theatre have cancelled all events until March 29, including the remaining performances of Twin Productions ‘9 To 5’.

Ballinasloe Musical Society has postponed its production of ‘Fiddler on The Roof’, which was due to take place March 24-28.

NUI Galway’s spring Open Day due to take place on March 29 has been cancelled.

GMIT’s Spring Open Morning in on March 28 and GMIT Letterfrack Open Day on April 4 have been cancelled.

A Labour Party leadership hustings due to take place in the Galway city is postponed.

The All-Ireland Musical Theatre Intervarsities event due to take place in NUIG next week has been postponed indefinitely.

All sporting-related activity in NUIG has been cancelled.

The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) has cancelled its annual Daffodil Day event on March 27. 

Galway Early Music has announced that events for European Early Music Day on March 21 have been cancelled.

All Masses with congregations in parishes in the Archdiocese of Tuam have been cancelled.

The dioceses of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora will hosts weddings, funerals and baptisms if the congregation is less than 100 people.

Galwegians Rugby Club Cheltenham Race Day function in The Galmont Hotel tomorrow has been postponed.

All public libraries as well as Galway City Museum will be closed until March 29.

A concert by Decibelles in Tuam to have taken place on Mother’s Day has been postponed.

The Galway Rehab People of the Year awards have been postponed.

DevOps Galway have suspended all meetings until further notice.

Galway GAA’s Foundation Course scheduled for this Saturday is cancelled.

Moycullen Basketball Club have cancelled all club activities, training & games until further notice.

A number of Galway 2020 events have also been postponed or cancelled.
