The coronavirus test results of an NUI Galway student are expected to be released later today.

The student presented themselves yesterday afternoon (Monday) to the Student Health Unit and was triaged before being tested by the HSE.

In an email to staff and students, Dean of Students Professor Michelle Miller said the University is following advice and taking precautions following the incident.

“The advice to the University was to deep clean a small area on campus, which has been carried out. The University was further advised that closure of buildings was not appropriate or required at this time,” she said.

Professor Miller also said in the email that many of the messages and information on social media are not accurate.

“You may be aware of inaccurate messages on social media and other channels overnight stating that a confirmed case of coronavirus COVID-19 had been detected in the University. These messages are not accurate.”

As of yesterday, NUI Galway’s Student Health Unit has suspended it’s walk-in service and is operating by appointment only.
