Easter Weekend in Galway City: Where to go and what to do

The Easter weekend is a great opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy the plethora of chocolate that has been dropped off by the Easter Bunny. For those looking to get out of the house, this weekend is also a brilliant time to experience the ‘egg-citing’ Easter events happening across Galway City. 

Here is your guide to Galway’s lively Easter weekend, along with a packed lineup of music, theatre, food and family-friendly events across the city. 

Friday – 3 April

Early in the evening, St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church hosts Music for Good Friday at 5pm, a reflective choral performance of Heinrich Schütz’s Matthäus-Passion. Tickets are available online. 

Club GASS returns to the Róisín Dubh from 10 pm. Hosted by Kiki St Clair, an unforgettable night of drag performances, DJs and late night entertainment across two floors are to be looked forward to. Tickets are available through the Róisín Dubh website and can also be purchased at the door.

Cultúr/Riot – formerly Tabú – takes over The Space at Electric from 11 pm. Bringing its ‘raunchy’ queer club night back to the city, exciting DJ sets and performances from JWY, Menace0802, Maria Tonka, Maria Cunningham and Marian Mary the 6th will take place. Tickets are available on RA Guide. 

Áras na nGael welcomes sober rave event, Bláth, to its space from 9 pm. Combining electronic, psychedelic and house beats, immersive visuals and non-alcoholic drinks – sets from DJs Quirke, Hairy Faeries and Jí will certainly have the dance floor buzzing. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door. 

Saturday – 4 April

Electric hosts The Market H91 from 11:30 am. Transforming the club venue into an indoor market – expect to see curated vintage clothing, homewares, vinyl and live DJ sets. 

A little outside the city, Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate holds its Easter Afternoon Tea. Taking place from 1 until 4 pm across both Saturday and Sunday, a seasonal menu of sweet and savoury treats can be enjoyed in an elegant and relaxed setting. 

Sunday – 5 April

HYDE Bar hosts a Disney-themed ‘Disco Brunch’ from 1 until 4 pm, with a playlist of nostalgic tunes from classic Disney Channel shows and films. 

If you’re not reading to take off your dancing shoes just yet – Electric hosts “Out Early, Home Early – Easter Edition” from 8 pm. DJ Cyril ‘Disko’ Briscoe will be playing a mix of throwback anthems and dance floor favourites.  

Monday – 6 April

Winding down after a spirited weekend, The Connacht Hotel welcomes all in for an Easter High Tea from 2 until 4 pm. A family-friendly afternoon with many sweet and savoury treats – a special appearance from the Easter Bunny is sure to leave this action packed holiday on a high.

Druid Theatre’s production of Macbeth continues its run at the Black Box Theatre until Sunday, presenting a bold and unique interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy. 

With a diverse mix of events taking place across the city, Galway’s Easter Weekend programme offers a little something for everyone.
