Are you affected by damp and mould in your accommodation?

By Tara McGivern

We want to speak to anyone in Galway experiencing mould and damp issues in their housing.

At a recent Galway City Council meeting, Cllr Helen Ogbu urged the council to address mould and damp in HAP and RAS properties in Galway.

“Learning from the tragic case that led to Awaab’s Law in the UK, it is imperative that Galway City Council takes proactive steps to safeguard residents’ health and well-being, and prevent unnecessary harm,” Cllr Ogbu said, when she addressed the council in November 2025.

Awaab Ishak was two years old when he died after prolonged exposure to black mould in his family home in Greater Manchester.

We want to hear from people renting accommodation in Galway. Do you live in privately rented housing or hotel accommodation? What condition is your home in? Are damp or mould an issue? How is the mould affecting those living in the accomodation?
