Plans Lodged to Replace Galway City Car Park with 219-Home Development

A major housing proposal has been submitted to An Bord Pleanála that could see a city centre car park transformed into a 219-unit residential development.
The application, lodged by Galway City Council and the Land Development agency, outlines plans to build a mix of apartments and duplex units on the Dyke Road Car Park site.
The project, known as ‘Corrib Causeway’, includes one block ranging from five to nine storeys, along with landscaped public spaces, communal courtyards, and parking. 197 apartments are set to be affordable while 22 are set to be social homes.
If approved, the development would help ease Galway’s chronic housing shortage. Yet, it also includes the removal of 389 existing car parking spaces.
The decision is expected from An Board Pleanála by September 15.
