The unbeaten boxer Kieran Molloy, who hails from Oughterard, has his eyes set on a fight in his home city of Galway. Molloy, who has declared his dream of fighting this summer in Galway with one particular venue in mind. Deacy Park, the home of Galway United, is Molloy’s dream venue, and it could become a real possibility. The unbeaten boxer enjoyed glory in Galway two years ago when he defeated Fernando Mosquera on points in Leisureland, Salthill. The 26-year-old, who has a record of 10-0, is hungry to have another local fight. Molloy, who now trains in England, is known to be a Galway United follower, and prior to every fight, he displays the Galway flag with emotion.
Molloy said, “It’s phenomenal to know I’ve got the support of people in Galway behind me.
“In boxing, you’ve got to stay so focused on whoever is in front of you. It’s you versus them.
“But when you get dragged into the deep end, that support can make the difference.
“It can really pull you through and make sure you come out the other side.”
“I’m working in England now, but I’m still a Galway boy, and we want an outdoor show in the summer. Let’s get a really good fight on and make it for a title.”
