Several communities in Galway have been handed out grants from €400 to €3,350 this week. This initiative falls under the Community Support Schemes announced by Galway City Council to enhance local infrastructure and promote sustainable development.
The council declared they “recognise that local communities are one of our greatest resources, and in recognition of this, has developed the Community Support Schemes to provide annual financial support for a diverse range of events and projects across three distinct Schemes: Economic Development, Community Development, and Cultural Development.”
Local political authorities encouraged community groups to apply for this funding opportunity. The successful applicants were officially announced on Monday, 25 March 2025, during a Council meeting.
In total, €15,600 was distributed across 11 grants:
- Headfest Galway €2000
- Caherlistrane Kilcoona Community Council €1,050
- Corofin Community Development €3,350
- Headford Community Garden €1,300
- Headford Environment Group €1,200
