Ambassador Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid addresses University of Galway

On Thursday, January 30th, the newly appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, conducted an exclusive public interview at the University of Galway. This public lecture was an opportunity for students of the university, staff and the general public to get an insight into the life and work of the ambassador and to receive and in-depth analysis of the current raging war in Gaza. The ambassador illustrated an abundance of awareness about the war and made reference to media coverage of the war, the ceasefire and hostage exchange, and the way in which Ireland have been supportive to Palestine since the start of the war. Dr. Wahba Abdalmajid stated that `she has always been made feel welcome by the people of Ireland`.

Shortly after Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid spoke to those who had gathered in the Aula Maxima, there followed a Q & A session. A number of questions were posed to the ambassador by various students and media alike. However, as the session went on a faint noise of chanting and commotion could be heard from outside. It was later found out that the Palestine Solidarity Society was holding a peaceful protest in `disappointment` to the Palestinian Authority. The event itself was free to attend, and tickets could be attained from Eventbrite.

The ambassador took time towards the end of the event to speak to a number of University of Galway students, and was thanked for her time by Tom Felle Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Galway.
