Galway United Manager John Caulfield has added to his squad ahead of the upcoming season

Galway United recently announced the signing of three overseas players, prior to the upcoming season. Daniel Stynes (Australia), Evan Watts (Wales) and Moses Dyer (New Zealand) have arrived to Deacy Park, bringing a wealth of experience. It’s a unique occasion, as none of them have played in the League of Ireland before.

The club confirmed that midfielder Daniel Stynes has joined the club after the twenty-six-year-old left Newcastle Jets most recently. Having over sixty appearances in the A-League (Australian top flight), he is delighted to be back in Galway, where he has spent some time previously. The Australian born player stated, “Yeah, so pretty much all my family is from Ireland. My Mum and Dad met in Galway and I actually went on holiday here in 2023, so it’s a special place. I’m really looking forward to it”. Stynes started off his professional career with his hometown club Perth Glory where he made his debut at 17. Stynes couldn’t hold back his excitement around the move, as he said “it’s a great feeling to get the deal over the line, I can’t wait to get out there and start playing. It`s great to be here to acclimatise a bit and then kick on in pre-season”.

The Tribesmen have also announced the signing of Swansea and Wales underage player, Evan Watts, who will join the club on loan for the 2025 season. The twenty-year-old goalkeeper has been at Swansea since Under-12 level as he progressed through the club`s ranks. The young shot-stopper signed his first professional contract with Swansea City in 2023, showing the bright future, he has ahead. Watts has also represented his country, Wales, at underage level where he most recently made his debut for the Under-21 side in March 2024. “I’m really excited to get started, I’ve met a lot of the lads already and everyone has been so welcoming. Theres a real homely feel about the club. John reached out to us and had a few chats. I feel like it could be really beneficial for me and my career. Looking at the club, it looks like a great club with a great fan base”, Watts confirmed.

Team Manager John Caulfield has also added Moses Dyer to his attacking ranks. The twenty-seven-year-old arrives in Galway after playing his football most recently in Canada. Moses has represented New Zealand at international level where he has also scored for the senior side. The attacker has expressed his excitement to be at the club: “It feels amazing, finally, to get here. A little bit different with the weather, but I’m used to it after being in Canada for the last few years. When I signed and told people, family, friends, even random people I met – funnily enough everyone had been to Galway and spoke so highly of it. That made me even more excited to come here”.
