Galway Gardaí Appealing to the Public for Information on Unidentified Man Found in Claddagh Quay

The Gardaí in Galway Garda Station have launched an appeal to the public in assisting them in identifying the body of a man which was recovered from the River Corrib, specifically Claddagh Quay on Sunday 17 November, 2024.

The man is thought to have been in his 60s, with an Irish accent. He had blue eyes and a full head of reddish grey hair. He was of medium build between 78-80kg, while he stood at approximately 5ft 7inches tall.

He also had a full beard grey in colour with the moustache slightly red. He had black rimmed glasses on him when found.

The Gardaí have also released a CCTV image of the man. In the image he can be seen wearing a grey tweed suit jacket and trousers, a blue and white striped shirt with a flowery print along the seams and inside the collar. He was also wearing Asos black laced dress shoes, size 10.

The Gardaí are not treating the death as suspicious and Galway Garda Station Superintendent Paudie O’Shea told the media that the Gardaí have been seeking information but as of yet have no leads.

“Extensive enquiries have been carried out but there has been no positive identification of the deceased to date.

“I am appealing to owners of guest houses, landlords, hotels, hostels, B&Bs and Airbnbs to check if anybody left their premises and may have left property behind.”

Anyone who knows the unidentified man or has any information is urged to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station
