Galway Film Fleadh: The young filmmakers and storytellers of Generation Fleadh

GENERATION Fleadh, the youth branch of the renowned Galway Film Fleadh, returns to create a hub for young film enthusiasts in the City of the Tribes.
Taking place from 23 – 26 October in Galway City, GENERATION Fleadh offers a carefully curated programme. Featuring the best of international film, inspiring workshops and insightful discussions tailored to a 12 – 24 year old audience.
GENERATION Fleadh programmer Holly Buckley spoke to Galway Pulse on the importance of the festival to youth arts and culture:
“GENERATION Fleadh is vital for young people in Galway, providing a space where they can gather, connect, create, discuss and experience film together.”
“It not only gives them a platform to screen their own work, but also to see stories that reflect their lives and concerns on the big screen.”
A vibrant programme
GENERATION Fleadh will host the Irish premieres of feature films screened at acclaimed festivals, such as Cannes in France and Sundance in the United States.
Notable international screenings include WINNERS and LAYLA, which will be followed by post-show discussions with directors Soleen Yusef and Amrou Al-Kadhi respectively.
GENERATION Shorts presents an engaging programme of short films by young filmmakers from across Ireland. The Gearrscannáin programme will highlight seven Irish language short films.
Dr Máiréad Casey, Lecturer in Film and Television Studies at University of Galway, will join GENERATION Council Members for an insightful panel discussion. This will follow the festival’s closing film, a retrospective screening of Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
Empowering and inspiring future filmmakers
Workshops play a huge role in the GENERATION Fleadh programme. Scoring for Screen will offer young people an insight into music composition for film.
Director of Photography, David Qualter will share The Cinematographer’s Toolkit, an indispensable guide to industry work for any budding filmmaker.
Hands-on All Abilities Animation workshops have been tailored to neurodivergent students. They will be delivered in two Galway schools throughout the duration of the Fleadh.
A key event in Galway’s festival calendar, GENERATION Fleadh promises to inspire and empower young creatives in Galway this October.
