Eastside Arts Festival unveiled by Galway City Mayor

The new Eastside Arts Festival was launched on Tuesday, 1 October by the Mayor of Galway City, Councillor Peter Keane.

This community-led festival for Galway was created in order to celebrate the rich diversity in the Eastside through arts and culture.

This event will run from Friday, 1 October to Saturday, 12 October in various locations including the Ballybane Library, Community Resource Centre, ARD Family Resource Centre, SCCUL Enterprise Centre and other venues in Doughiska and Ballybane.

The themes of “Movement, Listening, Home and Colours” embrace the spirit of the community, including accessibility and sustainability, to strengthen all relationships.

The exciting program includes performing and visual arts, storytelling by Niall de Burca and Lucy Desmond Kelly, an up-cycling workshop, a food event and a host of live music and dance events.

”This is an exciting development for the east side of the city and a fantastic opportunity for celebrating and sharing the rich creativity and cultures for the diverse community life and staying here,” said Councillor Keane.

The Festival is funded by Galway City Council through Creative Communities, an initiative from the Creative Ireland Programme, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

Additional funding has been provided by Galway Library Service, and Galway City Partnership.
