Gardaí in Mullingar are calling for witnesses as they continue to investigate a fatal single-car collision that left one occupant deceased.

Six-year-old Hannah Meshkat, from Galway, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin. She was pronounced dead nine days after the collision.

The driver, a man in his 40s, and another passenger, a boy, nine, escaped being seriously injured.

The Coroner is currently preparing for a post-mortem examination of the young girl to investigate further.

The incident occurred just before 4pm on 8 February between Junction 4 and Junction 3 on the M6 eastbound.

Garda Spokesperson Sean Mac Seoin asked for any potential witnesses to come forward, saying, “Anyone with information is requested to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

They also ask that anyone in the area at that time who might have camera or dash-cam footage turn it over to Gardaí.
