Snow is set to hit parts of the country tomorrow as the milder air blows away for now. Galway is bracing itself for the temporary cold blitz, with periods of snow expected for a short period of time.

The winter has been mild so far this year and cold blasts have been infrequent throughout. But Galway has been battered by multiple storms, including Storm Isha which barreled across the county.

Now, snow is set to blanket parts of the West.

Warnings for Ireland

Met Éireann has issued warnings to many parts of the West for Thursday, 8 February. A statement from Met Éireann read: “Sleet and snow for a time leading to some accumulations, most significant on higher ground.”

Galway is under a yellow warning for snow and ice from 3:00am morning until 1:00pm on 8 February.

Other parts of Connacht such as Mayo, Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo have been placed in an extended snow and ice warning until 8:00pm.

A prediction for Galway

Despite the short cold snap on the horizon, the voice behind Carlow Weather, Alan O’Reilly, believes that Galway will escape the worst of the conditions. He expects, “some sleet and snow especially on higher ground for a time Thursday morning and early afternoon but likely turning to rain at lower levels”.

A fresh day is expected tomorrow with temperatures ranging from two to five degrees.
