Storm Jocelyn to hit Galway in Storm Isha’s aftermath

After the widespread damage caused by Storm Isha, Met Éireann warns that Storm Jocelyn is set to hit Ireland’s western coast Tuesday morning.

Met Éireann preemptively issued a status orange warning for Tuesday from 6pm to midnight.

They are urging the public to exercise caution when travelling due to impending strong winds, debris, and power line damage. ESB issued a safety notice warning the public to avoid approaching downed wires.

This storm comes as an immediate follow up to Storm Isha, which arrived in Galway on Sunday morning. The storm led to disrupted travel and widespread power outages.

Damage to building roofs was widespread across the city centre. The clock tower on the roof of Thirteen on the Green fell to the sidewalk due to the extreme winds.

Galway City Council issued a statement warning residents about fallen trees, stating that crews had been dispatched to clear the roads.

ESB announced that there are currently 155,000 homes, businesses and farms without power. According to their outage monitoring site, over 500 are Galway residences. They estimate all outages will be restored by 6pm tonight.
