Two search operations were conducted by the Gardaí from the Galway Divisional Drugs unit based in Tuam. The searches were in two separate residences in Tuam on Friday evening the 27 of October, around 5pm.
As the searches went on, ecstasy tablets, cannabis herbs and crack cocaine with the street value of roughly €29,500 and various drug paraphernalia was seized.
A 20-year-old man was arrested during the searches and was detained under the Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984, in a Garda station in Galway. He has been charged since and is due to appear before a special sitting of Loughrea District Court this afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.
All the seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
This seizure is part of Operation Tara. This is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched on the 2 July 2021, by the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris. The focus of Operation Tara is to dismantle, disrupt and prosecute drug trafficking networks all levels- local, national and international- associated with the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of drugs.
