45 cases coronavirus cases confirmed in Galway

Five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Galway as of midnight on Tuesday, bringing the total number in the county to 45.

255 new cases were confirmed in the Republic of Ireland today while 10 more people died as a result of the virus.

Nine of the deaths occurred in the east of the country while one occurred in the south. Three more people in Northern Ireland have also died as a result of Covid-19.

The total number of fatalities in the Republic of Ireland now stands at 19, which now has 1,819 confirmed cases.

The median age of confirmed cases is 46 years and 340 cases (25 per cent) have been hospitalised.

47 of those hospitalised have been admitted to ICU.

Community transmission accounts for 52 per cent of cases, 22 per cent are associated with close contact while 27 per cent are associated with travel abroad.

A moment of applause for frontline healthcare workers was observed at 8pm this evening in the Dáil and other locations around Ireland.
