No threat to supply of goods in Galway stores

Retail Excellence has said that there is no threat to the supply of goods in Irish stores.
There had been reports of people buying large quantities of food and other essential goods this week as the number of cases of Covid-19 continues to rise.
Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon has welcomed their assurances and said there was no need for people to panic-buy.
“The industry is well prepared for the current situation having planned for a hard Brexit over the past number of months. In addition, Ireland produces enough food every year to feed 50,000,000 people, so there’s no fear of any shortages.”
Minister Cannon said bulk-buying would lead to supermarket shelves being short of essential goods, which would negatively impact on local communities.
He said the most important thing people can do now, “apart from following the advice issued by the HSE is to remain calm”.
