COPE have announced their first ever Kilo Sale is happening this week in Galway City.

The event will be taking place at the charity’s Newstownsmith shop from the 2-4 October, with doors opening at 10:30am.

The charity is promoting major discounts, with the sale offering 1kg worth of clothes or accessories for just €20.

COPE Galway said one of the main aims of the sale is to get a younger audience involved in supporting the charity and to encourage sustainable fashion.

They held a successful pop-up sale in the University of Galway at the beginning of September to test the waters, and now say they are prepared to take it a step further.

Staff member Alannah said “Having students more involved in sustainable fashion is a great thing”.

“Instead of going for fast fashion, we’ve got sustainable clothes here- it’s so much cheaper if you’re a student,” she said.

Students who attend the sale also get an extra discount of 20% off, meaning their kilo of clothes only costs them €16.

The charity also wants to give back to the customers. Over the 3 days of the sale, six lucky winners will be chosen and gifted 1Kg of free clothes.

COPE say they are proud that all of the money raised from the sale will be going back into the charity, which focuses on supporting victims of homelessness and domestic abuse.

“We have got so many services around town that the money will go towards. Things like the lunch clubs, emergency accommodation, and workshops. All of the money goes directly back into the charity.”
