The Blue Teapot Theatre located in Munster avenue, Galway is set to release a new show for children named ‘Fairy Tree.‘
This festive show which will be taking place from the fourth to the seventh December, consists of eight cast members who have intellectual disabilities.
The humorous and charming theatre show includes puppetry, along with original songs and is aimed for children from the age of six and suitable for all audiences.
Fairy Tree’ is set in a winter wonderland covered in snow and ice and tells the story of fairies that are so cold they are freezing to the trees.
Two young girls who notice the fairies, are sympathetic towards them and ask members of the community to take the fairies into their homes to give them warmth over the winter period.
Rod Goodall who directed ‘Fairy Tree’ has a total of six decades of experience, and was the performance director of Ireland’s premier spectacle theatre company ‘Macnas’ from 1987 to 1999.
When Rod Goodall was asked what inspired him to write ‘Fairy Trees’ he replied: “the importance of our relationship with each other, nature and perhaps the fairy world.”
Mr Goodall also reflected on his play by stating: “this is a warm-hearted tale, a celebration and acceptance that we are all different.”
The artistic director Petal Pilley spoke about the origins of the play saying, “the impetus for ‘Fairy Tree’ came from conversations with our actors to inform a strategic arts plan and capture their artistic ambitions.”
“Several expressed that they wanted to create theatre for children, with one actor saying that he had never seen anyone like him on stage as a child.”
“Not long after, I read a short story by Rod Goodall about the presence of the fairy realm in our everyday lives and saw the spark for a new piece of children’s theatre.”
‘Fairy Tree’ is made possible through the arts grant funding by the Galway County Council.
