Social Inclusion Week gets underway in Galway

A diverse range of events will take place in Galway City from 21 – 26 October to celebrate Social Inclusion Week.
The week aims to highlight the work of various organisations in Galway increasing social participation, equality and inclusion in all aspects of society.
These organisations have been invited to hold events outlining supports available for businesses and community groups, encouraging further inclusion of people with disabilities.
‘Just a Minute of Patience’
Galway City Council stated: “The theme for Social Inclusion Week 2024 is ‘Just a Minute of Patience’, because sometimes people need a little more patience and consideration to participate in the same way as everyone else.”
“Social Inclusion Week is a great opportunity for you to showcase your excellent work. We hope that by working together we can showcase all the good work that is taking place in Galway City.”
Ability West are hosting a range of different events. Earlier this week, ‘Through my Lens: Patience in Action’ highlighted the work of the ‘Best Buddies’ group.
‘Just a Minute of Patience’ will take place on on Thursday, 24 October. This event will provide practical communication access tips for businesses, and people working with the public.
Posters have also been designed for Galway businesses and public services, containing tips on the most inclusive ways to communicate with people working in customer centred roles.
Inclusion for all
Access for All Galway are holding Disability Awareness Training Days on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 October.
The training day on Thursday will be in the Ballybane Resource Centre and in the Westside Resource Centre on Friday. Both sessions will run for two hours from 10:30am to 12pm.
Scoil Chaitriona Senior, Renmore are hosting an fun day for all on Friday 25 October in the Renmore Community Centre. ‘Together We Dance and Sing’ with The Brothers of Charity Carrability Music Group will take place on Saturday 26 October at the Clayton Hotel.
