A café in Galway city is providing meals to frontline healthcare workers in UCHG dealing with coronavirus.

Mr Waffle has set up a GoFundMe page to provide lunches to healthcare staff working in the hospital, which is situated across the road from the café.

All of the money raised will go towards lunches for hospital staff, which they will provide with a free coffee for an €8 donation.

The Newcastle-based café set up the GoFundMe after receiving calls from the public who wished to donate meals to hospital staff.

Today the café delivered 50 meals to staff in the hospital after receiving an “incredible response” from the public to their appeal.

A Facebook post from the café read: “We have always supported our nurses and doctors in UCHG, however, now as a community lets help feed them in the coming days and weeks ahead. No matter how small or large your donation will go along way in putting a smile on the faces of the frontline workers who we all know have a long road ahead of them.”

You can support the appeal through Mr Waffle’s GoFundMe page.
