Rent in Barna ranked fourth highest outside of Dublin in Q1 of 2024

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), rent in Barna was fourth in terms of highest rents outside of Dublin in Quarter 1 (Q1) of 2024.

The CSO and the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) published that the average monthly rent in Barna during Q1 was €1829.43, earning them the fourth spot on the ‘Top 10 highest rents outside of Dublin’ list.

This list represented the data collected from January, February and March of 2024

The ‘Housing Hub’

The CSO launched a new Housing Hub on 18 November, which they describe as a ‘one stop shop’ for housing data.

The Housing Hub provides a wide range of information, broken down into four main themes: Home Building, Home Prices and Rents, Cost of Building Homes and Housing Features.

This newly launched database has made information regarding the housing sector in Galway more accessible.

New Dwellings

According to the CSO, during Q3 of 2024, 247 new dwellings were completed by Galway County Council and 37 new dwellings were completed by Galway City Council.

The Ballinasloe area saw the highest number of new dwellings in the county with 58 completions and the Galway City Central area saw the least with 5 completions.

The Q3 statistics consists of data compiled during the months of July, August and September.

Commencement Notices

During October 2024, Galway County Council submitted 40 notices for residential development to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Galway City Council submitted five notices for residential development in October 2024.

Planning Permissions

Planning permission for 316 new housing units and 107 new apartment units were granted by Galway County Council during Q2 of 2024.

Galway City Council granted planning permission for 23 new housing units and 235 new apartment units during the same period.

Houses accounted for 59% of all dwelling units granted planning permission nationwide in Q2.

Internet Access

The CSO revealed that in 2024, 81% of households in the Western Region access the internet via fixed broadband, while 33% of households use mobile broadband and 2% use narrowband.
