More student accommodation planned for Terryland

Planning permission is being sought for the construction of a new student accommodation complex in the Terryland area of Galway City.

The application, which was submitted by McHugh Property Holdings Limited, contains plans for a total of 84 apartments.

The complex is set to accommodate upwards of 580 students during the academic year, and will also be used for short-term stays during the summer months.

The apartments will be spread across seven blocks which vary in height from two-storey to five-storey.

The development will also include communal facilities on the ground floor of Block A, where a retail space and café are set to be located.

There are also plans for communal open space and outdoor recreational areas, bicycle storage, refuse storage, public lighting and signage.

There is provision for 16 car parking spaces on the complex, but residents will not be allowed to use these spaces.

Instead, the application contains plans for total of 422 bicycle storage spaces, which are intended to provide for all residents and visitors.

The development will also include the provision of associated surface water, watermain and foul water drainage services and connections, an ESB substation and all associated site works and ancillary services.

The application was submitted by McHugh Property Holdings Limited on 24 October and a decision by Galway City Council is expected by 18 December.
