Galway fared well in 2024 Supervalu TidyTowns Competition

Galway’s towns and cities scooped up plenty of awards at the 2024 Supervalu TidyTowns competition, following the release of this year’s results.

Milltown received the top marks in the county after collecting 384 points. This achievement crowned the village as County First, receiving a gold medal for their efforts. 

Only narrowly beaten by two points with 382 points was Abbey, named as County Second and collected another gold medal alongside Milltown. 

County Third went to An Spideal, as Galway City Centre and Tuam scooped up a silver and bronze medal respectively. Tullycross Village came out of the competition with an Endeavour Award.

Prize money of €1,000 for the “Waters and Communities Award” was awarded to Cuan Beo Environmental CLG. Oranmore TidyTowns received the same amount as the Northwest and West Large Town Regional Winners of the “Local Authority Pollinator Award”. 

For the “EPA Circular Economy Awards” Kinvara TidyTowns was Highly Commended, while Abbey TidyTowns was named the overall winner of the “Circular Economy Award”. 

Last but certainly not least, was the Abbeyknockmoy Parish Society, which came out on top in the Village and Small Town Category and was the National Winners of the “Gum Litter Task Force Award”, winning a total of €3,000 for their efforts.
