Crime: North-Western Garda Region saw 33% increase in Cases of Fraud

The Central Statistics Office published their Garda-recorded crime statistics for the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, which have revealed that the number of Fraud, Deception and related offences had the largest rate of increase in the North-Western region of the country, increasing by 33%.

These statistics represent the crimes committed during April, May and June of this year.

Robbery, Extortion and Hijacking and related offences saw a 2% rise in the North-Western region, while Theft and related offences increased 6%.

Burglary and related offences saw a 4% increase in the North-Western region.

The North-Western region saw a 1% decrease in Controlled Drug offences during Q2, as well as a 12% decrease in offences against Government, Justice Procedures and Organisations of Crime and a 7% decrease in Weapons and Explosives offences.
