The Salmon Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge is currently seeking an official name, and the Galway City Council is inviting the public to participate actively in this process.

This semi-elliptical steel bridge spans 85 meters across the River Corrib and offers stunning views of Galway Cathedral, the Mercy Convent, and the existing Salmon Weir Bridge.

The new Salmon Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge is poised to become a landmark symbolizing connectivity and sustainability, enhancing the connection between the riverbanks.

The Council encourages interested individuals to review the naming policy and submit their suggestions via the dedicated portal at https://www.galwaycity.ie/civic-naming.

The submission window will close at 6:00 pm on 11 February, 2024, providing a valuable opportunity for community members to contribute to Galway’s urban identity.

The Galway City Council reaffirms its commitment to fostering community involvement and collective decision-making in the city’s developmental endeavours through this consultative process.
