Galway to face London in Connacht Quarter Final

By Nathan Molloy

Galway’s first match of the Connacht Senior Football championship 2024 will be a quarterfinal clash with London GAA.

Padriag Joyce’s team found out their fate in the Senior Football Championship Provincial Draw on RTÉ Radio One on Saturday afternoon.

If they beat London in the quarterfinal, they would face the winners of Sligo v Leitrim. Their biggest rivals in the province, Mayo and Roscommon are on the opposite side of the draw. James Horan’s side will be flying across the Atlantic to face New York with the Rossies playing the winner.

The Tribesmen will be aiming to become champions of Connacht for the 3rd time in a row next year. The 49 – time winners won the final last year by blitzing Sligo, beating them by 14 points on a scoreline of 2 – 20 to 0 – 12.

However, the men in maroon will ultimately be judged on their performances in the All Ireland series. Last year, Galway made history, becoming the first provincial champion to fail to make it to the quarterfinals.

2024 will be Joyce’s fourth year in charge of the Galway footballers. He now knows the path his side has to take to retain the Connacht title.
