Gardaí launch enquiry into fire at Galway hotel

Gardaí have launched an enquiry into a serious fire which occurred at the Corrib Great Southern Hotel.

The incident was attended by emergency services at 6am this morning.

The incident is currently being investigated as a case of criminal damage.

Three units from Galway City Fire and Rescue and a unit from Athenry attended the blaze which occurred on the third floor of the building.

Situated on the Dublin Road near GMIT, the former hotel has been marked as a derelict site since 2015.

It has become the target of arson attacks and other anti-social behaviour in recent years.
