The city of Galway is the perfect place for a summer getaway. While there is still some time left for that wonderful time of year, it is good to start planning your holiday. The City of Tribes is known for being a very tourist friendly and as someone who has stayed here some time, I can attest to this. So, what we have decided to do is pick five destinations that will cater to all. These include some well-known places that you might have heard of. Remember that there is more to this city than these places so feel free to explore it all you can. So, let us look at what you can do when you are in this wonderful city.

Spanish Arch

This is one place that you must visit if you are looking for a slice of history. Created back in the 18th century, the two arches are testament to the craftmanship of years gone by. Another reason to go here is that the Galway City Museum is right behind the arch and is a neat collection of this great region’s history.

Shop Street

This is the place to go to take care of all your shopping needs. Located in the heart of the city, this street is a vehicle free zone. You can stroll around and take in the sights and sounds from the wonderfully talented buskers. Also, you are more than likely to find anything and everything on the street. Over a period of time, shop street has become one of the defining landmarks of this city.

Galway Cathedral

One of the most instantly recognisable landmarks of the city, the Cathedral has been standing strong for more than fifty years. You do not have to be religious to visit as you will be astonished by the architecture and design that is on display. Built on the old city prison, this building has to be on your itinerary when you come to Galway.

Salthill Promenade

Located a little away from the city centre and nestled in the suburb of Salthill is the promenade that should be prominent in your plans. Stretching over a distance of two kilometres, this place has everything from bars, pubs, restaurants to even casinos. A walk along the promenade can be soothing as you will be greeted by the breeze coming from the beach nearby. It gets particularly beautiful during sunset and has known to be quite romantic as well.

Roisin Dubh

Everyone has their own favourite pub in the city of Galway. This is due to the sheer number of choices that one has. But do check out the Roisin Dubh as they will give you a experience that is slightly different. One of the highlights of this pub is the Silent Disco nights that they have on Tuesdays. It is a great mix of modern and tradition at the Dubh, so why not pay them a visit.

There you go, these are the choices that we came up with for Galway. But as always, there is so much to explore in this magnificent city.
